Project Activities
around the world water use posters
This activity is completed in groups of three or four students and requires you to create an A2 sized poster about water availability and how it is used in a randomly allocated country.
The poster needs to include subjects like the availability of clean drinking water and sanitation, what the water is used for on an individual and country level, if their are water conservation programmes in effect, is any of the water supply privatised and how polluted are the water resources. An example of a poster can be downloaded from the two files below.

Personal Water use powerPoint
|
This is activity is to be completed independently and requires you to create a PowerPoint presentation that presents how much water your family uses in one week.
The Powerpoint presentation needs to include information about what and where your family use water around your house on a daily basis. You need to approximately work out how much water your family use in a week, then from this you can work out your families daily use and then approximately how much each person uses. You also need to include information on any water conservation techniques you have in progress at home. The final section of the PowerPoint should include ideas of where your family could save water in your home. The Powerpoint should contain at least 16 slides and an example is provided in the slideshow on the left. |
One of the products of the 'Where is All the Water' project will be a water awareness magazine. This magazine is intended to inform it's readers about waters place in the world, how water is part of our everyday life, the problems related to water in this country and other countries around the word, the ways in which water can be conserved, and how water is starting to become an economically valuable resource thats access is beginning to be controlled by private organisations.
The magazine articles will be created in student pairs, several drafts of each article will be written, feedback will be provided by students and teachers and the Magazine will be launched in the final week of term. The Magazine articles should be interesting, accurate, eye catching, use a combination of text types and represent an equal workload. Look at magazines of your own to get ideas about the structure and format of your articles, and an example of a possible page is downloadable from the file to the right. The font to be used throughout the magazine is Helvetica size 14 (for titles and sub-titles other fonts can be used) |

Water Conserving House Plan
This activity requires you to create a plan and then model of your perfect water conserving house. You need to think about what it would include, how can you save water inside and outside the house? The block of land that you have to build your house on is 18m x 24m (432 metres squared), how can you best use the space to make the most water efficient house? You will need to complete a plan and provide a key for your plan that explains your water saving methods. You will create your small scale model of your house from this plan so don't make it too extravagant.
The files below provide examples of a plan and a key for a water conserving house house.
|
Water conserving House modelThis activity requires you to turn your two dimensional plan in to a three dimensional model, using a whole variety of recycled house hold rubbish and craft materials you need to create a scale model of you water conserving house.
You should try to be as accurate as possible and include a detailed key to explain the different parts of your house and how they help to conserve water. This key could include photographs, diagrams and any other visual or written text that will help the reader/viewer to fully understand the concept behind your house. |
